Determine Your Feet’s Health With These 5 Tests

feet testsIt goes without saying that it’s extremely important to have healthy feet. The average individual takes approximately 10,000 steps per day. Without your feet, where would you be?

There are things you can do, in regard to determining the health of your feet. These “feet tests” are quick and easy. They can be performed in the comfort of your own home.

Balance

One of the easiest ways to test your balance is to stand on one foot. The younger you are, the longer you should be able to balance that way. As a general guideline:

  • 30 to 40 years old – 12 seconds
  • 40 to 50 years old – 10 seconds
  • 50+ – 7 seconds

When you think about it, 12 seconds isn’t really that long. With practice, you’ll find it easy to improve.

Circulation

Bad circulation is one of the major signs that your feet aren’t healthy. Changes in the color of your toes, tell you a lot. They should not be blue, purple or red.

To adequately check your circulation, press down on your big toe until the nail turns white. Remove your thumb. The color should turn back to normal within about 2 to 5 seconds. If it doesn’t, there may be a problem.

Feet Tests and Flexibility

There are several feet tests you can do, to check for flexibility. One such test is to pick up small objects such as marbles or beans, with your toes. Transport them from one shallow bowl to another.

Next, check your ankles. Lie on the floor, with your feet together and flat against the wall. Pull your toes back as far as you can, without moving your heels. Moving your toes at least one inch, away from the wall, is a good indication that your ankles are flexible.

Skin Condition

Monitor your skin for things like calluses and blisters. If they frequently appear, it may be time to purchase new shoes. To be the most comfortable, your shoes should take on the shape of your feet as much as the materials they are made out of will allow.

Sensation and Feet Tests

One of the simplest ways to check the sensation in your feet, is to rub something across the bottom of them. A pencil eraser works quite well. You should feel the same level of sensation, everywhere.
